Android
Auto continues to gain momentum as automakers search for a relatively
easy and inexpensive way to equip their cars with electronics that work
with customers' smartphones. South Korean auto company Kia previously
committed to the platform on a handful of its cars, at least according
to the official Android Auto website, but that list has been
considerably expanded as of the latest update. The latest version lists
nearly twenty models that will have Android Auto capability, including
several 2014-2016 models that will receive it as an update.
The new models that will have Android Auto as an option this year and next year are as follows (remember that, like EA Sports video games, auto model years time-travel one year ahead):
On top of that, a handful of current models from the 2014-2016 runs will be given Android Auto via software update, presuming that the on-board electronics are compatible:
Some Kia models can be upgraded via a PC download and a flash drive, while others need to be taken to a Kia dealership for a more involved process.
