At
first glance, the 2015 Kia Optima stands out among its
rivals with its distinctive styling, lengthy warranty and generous assortment
of features.
Now
toss in its excellent safety ratings, top-shelf infotainment systems and its
handsome and well-crafted interior and the Optima becomes a must-see
vehicle in the competitive midsize sedan category.
"The
Optima has the look and feel
of an expensive sports sedan," said Amber Henslee, a sales consultant at
Tyler Kia in Niles. "But
it's surprisingly affordable and economical to operate."
Unlike
some competitors with a one-size-fits-all approach, the Optima comes with three different
power plants that are each mated to a six-speed automatic transmission: a
192-horsepower, 2.4L four cylinder; a 274-horsepower, 2.0L turbocharged four
cylinder; or a 199-hybrid that combines a 159-horsepower four cylinder with a
47-horsepower electric motor.
The Optima also has a
strong focus on safety with stability and traction control, anti-lock brakes
with brake-force distribution and brake assist, hill-start assist and a full
array of air bags. Advanced safety features also are available.
Assembled
in Georgia, the LX comes well equipped with air conditioning, fog lights,
heated power mirrors with turn signal indicators, a 60/40 split-folding rear
seat, 16-inch alloy wheels, full power accessories, keyless entry, a cooled
glove box, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel with audio and cruise controls
and a CD audio system with satellite radio, Bluetooth, USB and auxiliary input
jacks.
The EX
adds 17-inch alloy wheels, sound-insulated glass, an auto-dimming rearview
mirror, a 10-way power driver's seat, push-button start, dual-zone automatic
climate control and leather-trimmed upholstery. Also available with the
turbocharged engine, the SX adds a sport-tuned suspension,
steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters, 18-inch alloy wheels, LED taillights
and more.
The
Limited comes with the turbo and includes 18-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic
sunroof, premium leather upholstery, heated and cooled front seats, heated rear
seats and more.
There
are two trim levels for the hybrid. Many of the options on the higher trim
levels can be purchased individually or in packages. Having recently won a
toe-to-toe Motor Trend competition with its new Sedona minivan, all Kias come
equipped with a 10-year/100,000-mile warranty program.
"The
Optima combines
the looks of a sports coupe with the practicality of a sedan," said
Henslee. "It's a great value and because of its high residual value, it
typically comes with attractive lease and financing deals to make it that much
more appealing."
