New Car Technology: Kia UVO eServices - Video

These days, cutting-edge in-car technology has become about as important as reliability or interior comfort. As a result, automakers are going the extra mile to offer the latest innovations. In our latest video, we're taking a look at the Kia UVO infotainment system, which is available on most Kia models.

In its most basic form, UVO is a voice-activated infotainment system that features a standard 4.3-inch touchscreen. Introduced in 2011, UVO has since been upgraded to add eServices, which includes a mobile app, enhanced roadside assistance, an elaborate diagnostic service and a handy "parking minder" feature. The latest version also includes a navigation system and offers an impressive 8-in touchscreen.

Kia's UVO system also touts a "geo fence" feature, which allows you to set a geographic perimeter and receive an alert if the vehicle goes outside of it. In addition, UVO boasts a 911 Connect feature that will alert authorities to your location and connect you to a dispatcher until help arrives.

Although we like how the Kia UVO system works, there are a few drawbacks. For instance, there's no remote-start function like there is with GM's OnStar. And if you're already on the phone when you get in the car, it's difficult to make the call transfer from the handset to the Bluetooth system.

Still, UVO has a lot of benefits, including the fact that it's free and has no fees or contracts. That's a huge departure from most rival systems. That, combined with the system's excellent functionality, makes us think that most drivers will really appreciate Kia's UVO.
