Kia is poised to register in two new segments that each have their importance on the image plane. The Korean manufacturer will unveil this month its first hybrid model only, the Niro. This presentation will precede that of a coupe-powered sedan, scheduled for October.
The Niro, some not too revealing pictures have already been published by the manufacturer in January, will be unveiled in the next show in Chicago. Automotive News claims that this new model would incorporate the two plug-in hybrid and hybrid powertrains Hyundai Ioniq . A four-cylinder 1.6 L 139 hp hybrid and 195 lb-ft therefore serve as the standard engine. The technical data of the plug-variant are currently not available.
In terms of configuration, Niro should take the form of a crossover, while sharing its chassis with compact sedan Ioniq. The first illustrations suggest an appearance similar to that of the latest vintage of the Sportage.
A sporty powered in Paris?
While Hyundai gentrified with its new Genesis luxury division, Kia is preparing to do the same, but on a smaller scale. According to Autocar magazine, a coupe-sedan built on a propulsion architecture is unveiled at the Paris Motor Show for commercialization in course of next year. This model should first be placed on the market in 2015.
We know only very little about this creation, except that it should be called GT and would draw its inspiration from the GT Concept design study presented in 2011 at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Coupe GT4 Stinger, unveiled at Detroit in 2014, would also be an influence.
Engine side, the new twin-turbo 3.3L V6 employed by the Genesis G90 (the new luxury division of Hyundai), would be a prime candidate.
Kia certainly benefit of hiring by the parent company Hyundai a former executive of BMW M division, Albert Biermann, to ensure the development of this new model.
