From
their safety to their technology to their fuel economy, minivans have come a
long way since you were a regular backseat passenger, and Motor Trend has
deemed the 2015 Kia Sedona the family
hauler that is currently leading that progress. The magazine’s editors recently
chose the Sedona
as their favorite after comparing five of the top minivans in a variety of
categories, including ride and handling, performance, efficiency,
cockpit/cabin, safety, value and cost of ownership.
Demonstrating
excellent control and a smooth ride on twisty and rough road sections, the 2015
Sedona bested its
competitors in ride and handling, meaning its child passengers will be less
likely to spill their juice boxes or be awoken from their naps. Kia’s minivan also finished a
close second in the performance category with its responsive 276-horsepower
3.3-liter V6 engine, and its Limited model even managed to outperform its EPA
fuel-economy rating by netting 23.8 mpg on the highway in Motor Trend’s Real
MPG testing. Inside the Sedona,
editors found the nicest cabin of the group, citing its available Nappa leather
and wood-style trims, its reclining Slide-N-Stow second-row seats and an
optional UVO eServices infotainment system that was rated superior to
competitor’s offerings.
“The Sedona was victorious in
Motor Trend’s comparison because it surpasses expectations of how a minivan can
drive and feel with its high-strength chassis and high-tech interior,” said
Jeff Rosen, general manager of Wisconsin Kia dealer Rosen Kia Milwaukee. “At the same
time, all the practical elements are still there, from the industry-leading
safety to the segment-leading value.”
Designated
a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the
2015 Kia Sedona was one of
just two minivans in the Motor Trend comparison to achieve the top rating of
“good” in all of the safety organization’s crashworthiness tests. Meanwhile,
Motor Trend editors determined that the Sedona offers the most content
for its pricing, including an optional Surround View Monitor for maneuvering in
and out of tight parking spots, as well as an available Smart Power Liftgate
that automatically opens when owners stand behind it with their smart key.
