In its
third generation now, the Kia Sportage got a new
facelift last year, which means it will soon end it’s life span and we’ll get a
whole new generation. Well, that’s on the way already and in fact it has been
caught testing for the first time.
Our spy
photographers were snooping around Hyundai-Kia’s Technical Center in
Russelsheim, Germany, and suddenly two camouflaged new-generation Kia Sportage came by, stopping
right in front of our man.
The
test drivers pulled one next to each other for a quick chat, just enough for
the photographer to snap some shots with both the front and the rear of the
soon-to-come mid-size SUV.
Taking
a look at the photos and imagine what lies under those thick covers, we can say
that Kia is quite
conservative with the next generation Sportage; at least when it comes
to the sides and car’s greenhouse, which appears to look almost the same with
what’s on the current model.
Not much to see
At the
front however, you can see there are new wraparound headlights, a bigger Tiger-nose
tridimensional front grille and some more prominent foglights. Oh, and judging
on the grille’s lower position, you can see how the model borrows design cues
from the Kia KX3 concept we
saw earlier.
The
rear seems to be inspired by the same car and apart from a new set of LED
taillamps, there is nothing to look at for the moment. The interior is not
visible in the photos and it could also be unfinished, but the new Sportage should wear a new
one, with a resculpted dashboard, new materials and extra equipment.
Regarding
what you’ll be getting under the hood of the new generation Kia Sportage, we expect
it should get a an improved 136 hp 1.6 CRDi as well as a 190 hp R-Engine for
the diesel lineup, while the gasoline side will boast with the all-new 132 hp
1.2 T-GDi, an upgraded 201 hp 1.6-er as well as a 245 hp 2-liter T-GDi. The
7-speed dual clutch transmission will also be offered at launch.
