Launched
in 2010 as a replacement for the highly acclaimed, yet not exactly good-looking
Amanti, the Kia Cadenza opened a new chapter for
the Korean automaker, as a huge step forward in the luxury, full-size market.
Designed by former Audi chief designer Peter Schreyer, the Cadenza boasted attractive
exterior styling, a powerful V-6 engine and more standard equipment than rival
offerings from BMW or Mercedes-Benz. The Cadenza came to the U.S. for the
2014 model year, shorty after receiving its mid-cycle facelift. Its
well-equipped base model and peppy powerplant quickly made the Korean sedan it
one of the best deals for the buck in the American luxury market.
With
the first-generation model nearing the end of its life-cycle, Kia is preparing a major
overhaul that includes redesigned styling, updated luxury features and a more
powerful six-banger. While the second-gen Cadenza is about one
year away, the camouflaged prototype our paparazzi spotted recently in Northern
Sweden signals development is well underway and that the sedan may break cover
by the end of 2015. Until that happens, check out my speculative review below
to find out what the new Cadenza might bring
to the market.
