Android Auto Website Expands List Of 2016-2018 Kia Car Models, Plus Software Updates For 2014 And 2015 Models

Android Auto continues to gain momentum as automakers search for a relatively easy and inexpensive way to equip their cars with electronics that work with customers' smartphones. South Korean auto company Kia previously committed to the platform on a handful of its cars, at least according to the official Android Auto website, but that list has been considerably expanded as of the latest update. The latest version lists nearly twenty models that will have Android Auto capability, including several 2014-2016 models that will receive it as an update.

The new models that will have Android Auto as an option this year and next year are as follows (remember that, like EA Sports video games, auto model years time-travel one year ahead):

  • 2016 Optima
  • 2017 Sportage
  • 2017 Forte
  • 2017 Soul
  • 2017 Soul EV
  • 2017 Optima Hybrid
  • 2017 Plug-in Optima
  • 2017 Sorento
  • 2017 Sedona
  • 2017 Cadenza
  • 2017 Niro Hybrid
  • 2018 Rio
  • 2018 K900

On top of that, a handful of current models from the 2014-2016 runs will be given Android Auto via software update, presuming that the on-board electronics are compatible:

  • 2015 Optima
  • 2014 – 2016 Soul
  • 2015 – 2016 Soul EV
  • 2015 – 2016 Optima Hybrid
  • 2016 Sorento
  • 2015 – 2016 Sedona

Some Kia models can be upgraded via a PC download and a flash drive, while others need to be taken to a Kia dealership for a more involved process.
