This is how fast the Kia GT is
It has been revealed that the upcoming Kia GT, the South Korean company’s first sports saloon, will be able to cover the 0-62mph sprint in just 5.1 seconds. That makes the GT the fastest accelerating Kia to date.
The Kia GT has been long in development and it was already anticipated before the acceleration figure was released that this would be far sportier than any other Kia launched before. Compared even to Kia’s Cee’d GT and Pro_cee’d GT warm hatches, the all-new GT is in a league of its own in terms of speed.
While we’ve seen concepts of the Kia GT on display before, the final product has not been properly revealed and Kia has only been letting bits and pieces of info on the car trickle out over time.

It is reported however that Kia will reveal its new GT in production form in January during the 2017 Detroit Auto Show.
Kia has been teasing the reveal of its GT sports saloon by releasing a series of short videos as part of a series called The Curve Ahead, which show the car in disguised form.
The first video showed the GT being tested on the Nurburgring Nordschleife test track and ended up revealing that the car’s top speed is over 150mph. The second and most recent video confirms the benchmark sprint time of the Kia GT.
Accompanying the latest announcement, Kia said: “A benchmark for any car operating on a higher level of performance, and the number that enthusiasts look for first. The fastest-accelerating Kia to date represents a new paradigm of performance, its heart-pounding power encouraging you to grip the wheel a little more tightly.”

The new Kia GT is not far away
Do you recall the Kia GT Concept that was unveiled back in 2011? Well, the car is finally getting produced and it is projected to arrive later this year. The production GT is going to be huge when released because it is going to be Kia’s first performance-focused car.
In terms of design, the GT is already looking attractive and all that is left is for Kia to equip it with a powerful powertrain. The word is that the GT will be adopting a V6 twin-turbo engine that can develop 380hp to offer.
There will also be a base trim model that will rely on a 2L 4-cylinder turbocharged engine that can generate up to 270hp. With such figures, the GT will be allowed to compete with the industry greats like the Ford Focus RS and Subaru BRZ.
This is the sort of figures which the Subaru BRZ and Toyota 86 fans would love to see on their cars. The unfortunate thing about the duo is that they only have 205hp to offer and it does not match their sporty looks.

Kia GT RWD Four-Door Coupe To Launch Six Years After Concept's 2011 Debut
Next year, the production-variant of Kia's 2011 GT concept car will hit the market and offer a package previously unseen from the carmaker.
Some five years in the making, the road-going Kia GT is expected to remain true to the formula of the concept. That means it will retain the four-door coupe-like design and be available exclusively with rear-wheel drive, promising much better dynamics than Kia's other rear-wheel model, the K900 sedan.
While some had hoped the concept would in fact spawn a true two-door coupe, Hyundai-Kia design boss Peter Schreyer said that there simply isn't enough demand for the company to produce such a model.
“I think that acceptance or demand for two-door models has changed. I think it’s more towards four-door coupés or saloons, or coupé-like saloons, if that’s what you want to call them. Two-door coupés are a little bit on the decline. It would be nice to make a new coupé, but if there is no demand, what’s the point?” he said.
When it reaches the market as Kia's range-topping model, the GT will be available with a plethora of different engines. One of those is expected to be a derivative of the 315 hp turbocharged four-banger that debuted within the GT4 Stinger concept. Elsewhere we're expecting to see a 2.2-liter diesel with 197 hp and a 3.3-liter turbocharged V6 squeezing out 380 hp in standard guise. With some tweaking, power from this engine could exceed the 425 hp of the BMW M4.
The car's name remains somewhat of a mystery. It certainly won't be called the GT but with a launch next year, we won't have to wait too long to find out.

2017 Kia GT prototype spotted testing
Prototypes of the new four-door coupé have been spotted testing around Europe, including at the Nürburgring. They have also been testing with a trailer in tow – a practice that is popular with some Kia owners.
Although much of the model’s styling is under camouflage, the familiar ‘tiger nose’ Kia grille, upright air intakes in the bumper and similar headlights to those on the Sportage SUV are clear to see.
The shape of the car also resembles that of the Audi A7, and the shots suggest that the GT will be one of the largest in the Kia range.
Insiders say the production car’s final design will stay true to the look of the GT concept, which was first revealed at the Frankfurt motor show in 2011.
The model is expected to feature a rear-wheel drive layout, with a choice of turbocharged four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines, shared with the Sportage.
Our sources believe Kia could also offer its larger V6 and V8 petrol engines in certain markets. Currently, these engines are in biggest demand in the US in models like the K900.
The GT’s launch date has not yet been confirmed, but it is expected to be revealed next year, with first deliveries arriving by early 2018.
