Today Kia Motors America announced a
record-breaking monthly sales
total of 62,433 vehicles sold last month. This all-time best ever monthly sales total marks
only the second time the Korean automaker has sold over 60,000 units in the US
in a single month (the other time, coincidentally enough, was in May of last
year).
As
usual, the Kia Optima (16,349
total units sold), Soul (13,886 units), and Sorento (10,743 units) were the
brand’s MVPs. The award for Most Improved, though, definitely belongs to the
newly redesigned 2015 Sedona minivan, which accounted for 4,110 units in May
2015 (as opposed to just 739 in May 2014).
The Kia Forte also had a best-ever
monthly sales
performance, with 8,584 vehicles sold. KMA attributes the success to
the “Summer’s On Us” sales event, which the car company launched last month.
“Kia is never afraid
to challenge conventional thinking, and the latest example is our launch of the
‘Summer’s On Us’ sales
event in May rather than a traditional Memorial Day promotion, and the
record-setting results show it clearly resonated with consumers,” said COO
Michael Sprague.
Despite
primarily positive sales
results, the K900 luxury sedan continued to post middling sales results in May, with only
133 units sold (compared to 227 in May 2014). Apparently, despite leading the
Cavs to the NBA Finals for only the second time in franchise history, LeBron’s
endorsement doesn’t carry the same weight it used to.
