Although the Nissan Cube was put out to pasture recently, Kia has no intentions of pulling the plug on the funky and boxy Soul hatchback. In fact, as new rumours have it, the Korean automaker is considering making two big additions to the lineup.
According
to Motor Trend, the current Soul
is destined to receive the Forte’s
turbocharged 1.6-litre inline-four sometime next year. Rated at 201 horsepower
and 195 lb.-ft. of torque, the engine would serve as a considerable upgrade
from the Soul’s current top-level engine, a 164-horsepower four-cylinder. It’s
said Kia wanted to introduce
the uprated engine into the Soul
this year, but couldn’t source the upgraded suspension, brakes and steering
tuning on time.
In
addition to a more powerful Soul, Kia
is also considering adding an all-wheel-drive drivetrain for the
next-generation model. Although it hasn’t been green-lit yet, an
all-wheel-drive Kia Soul would
compete better with other subcompact crossovers like the Chevrolet Trax, Jeep
Renegade and Nissan Juke.
