After
knocking down his 273rd three-pointer of the season, on May 4, Golden State
Warriors’ point guard Stephen Curry was named the recipient of the Maurice
Podoloff Trophy as the 2014-15 NBA Most Valuable Player. Since the South Korean
carmaker has been the main NBA auto sponsor for the last years, the 27-year-old
basketball player was prized with a 2016 Kia
Sorento LX CUV.
Kia’s marketing efforts to
promote their new models are more than impressive. They are the ones organizing
the YouTube Music Awards, an event that was currently at its second drill this
year. They also sponsored the UEFA Euro 2016’s Mascot, the Copa America 2015
donating ten cars to Chile’s Football Association and other ventures.
The
National Basketball Association remains their primary interest; it’s where they
play most of their cards. L.A. Clippers star Blake Griffin is one of their most
famous ambassadors and so is Cavaliers’ all-time leading scorer LeBron James.
He even designed a special kind of Kia
K900 sedan which he then donated to charity.
In
fact, philanthropy is where most of Kia’s car prizes go, apparently. Blake
Griffin gave his Optima he
dunked over, four years ago. Oklahoma City Thunder’s point guard Russell
Westbrook also donated his MVP Kia Sorento to a single mother who
needed the car better.
Curry’s
Sorento LX CUV
was given to the East Oakland Youth Development Center, a charity that develops
the social and leadership capacities of youth and young adults. According to
NBA, Kia Motors will present a Sorento to the charity of choice
of each of five 2014-15 year-end award winners as part of the Kia NBA
Performance Awards.
Moreover,
with this step, Kia Motors will have
donated a total of 38 new vehicles to charitable organizations since their
collaboration with NBA’s honors began.
