KIA made sure that come
Frankfurt, their Optima
would look its best for the European crowd, and so they also sent a sporty GT
version to make sure that both the media and future/potential customers took
notice.
Entering its
fourth-generation, the new Kia
Sportage compact SUV offers an innovative and sophisticated package to buyers
in an increasingly competitive segment of the market.
“This is the model of the
highest expectations for this year that we have put all our capacity into”, Kia
Motors CEO Park Han-woo told reporters.
Speaking exclusively to Auto
Express at the Sportage’s world unveiling, Kia Europe’s chief designer, Gregory
Guillaume, said the Sportage range will grow and a hot version would be a
natural fit for the Korean brand. Since early this month, it has received
around 5,000 preorders for the new model, the company said.
The 2016 Kia Optima will be
in European markets by the end of the year.
“The all-new Optima builds
on the worldwide success of the existing model, with a modern, new exterior, a
bold interior design with more space for all occupants, an array of new
technologies and a wide choice of efficient powertrains”, according to Kia. Kia says that
a new body style for the Optima based on the Kia Sportspace is also in the
pipeline. Under its hood, the midsized sedan is making use of a 2.0 liter
four-cylinder turbocharged gasoline burner, which is capable of putting down a
total of 245 HP (180 kW), at 6,000 rpm, and it is coming with a peak torque of
353 Nm (260 lb-ft), available between 1,350 rpm and 4,000 rpm.
As we already know what the
new design looks like, we’ll dive right into the newly-released details about
what’s under that refreshed skin.
A new “GT Line” trim level
will also be offered, described as being aimed at those looking for a sportier
driving experience. Having started production in 2006, May 2015 saw the
1,000,000th Kia cee’d manufactured by Kia Motors in Europe, and the
cars has played a significant role in Kia’s sustained growth and success since
its introduction nine years ago.
